We've been at the Emergency Services Show at the NEC Birmingham over the last couple of days, sharing news of our plans and ambitions with other fire service and blue light organisations. As our ageing population increases, so too do the number of people living with dementia and Alzheimer's. There are currently 920,000 people with dementia in the UK, with numbers set to rise to over a million by 2024. It is estimated that 1 in 3 people born in the UK this year, will develop dementia in their lifetime.
