For firefighter Jim Johnson’s wife Karen, the Charity has supported her not once, but twice - more recently providing a much-needed break following a cancer diagnosis. Now she’s urging anyone else struggling to reach out. When firefighter Sasha Acheson injured her shoulder playing rugby, she faced weeks out of work. But thanks to the support she received from the Charity, she went on to achieve her dream just months later. Hampshire firefighter Sophie Exton-Woodford has created an illustration to commemorate time spent volunteering in ICU as part of the blue light community’s efforts to support the NHS during the pandemic. Scottish firefighter David Kerr has raised the most amount of money by any individual during our Fire Family Challenge. He and his wife, Karen, turned a negative into a positive to say thank you to the Charity for the support we showed them during the toughest months of their lives. Durham firefighter Paul Bainbridge is nine months into his fundraising challenge of running three miles every day, both to raise money and awareness for the positive impact exercise has on mental health.
