Life in the fire service comes with unique challenges – challenges that don’t just affect those in uniform but also their loved ones at home.
At Fire Fighters Charity, we see firsthand how these challenges can impact relationships. In the first year of our 24/7 Crisis Line, nearly a third of callers (29%) cited relationship breakdown and family-related concerns as a key reason for reaching out. That’s why we’ve launched a nationwide survey, in collaboration with Nottingham Trent University, Relate at Family Action, and Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service, to better understand how fire service life affects partner relationships.
We’re asking for your help.
If you are currently in a relationship, or have been in one, where at least one of you has worked in the fire and rescue service, particularly in an operational role, we’d love for you to take part in our anonymous Thriving Relationships Survey.
Your insights, whether positive or less positive, will help us shape vital support services for the fire and rescue community across the UK. The survey takes 15-30 minutes to complete, and by taking part, you’ll have the chance to win a week-long self-catering holiday at one of our centres* or one of three £50 Amazon vouchers.
Fire service life doesn’t stay at work—it comes home too. Help us make a difference by sharing your experiences in confidence today.
