Staffordshire is one of a few Fire and Rescue Services which turn 50 this year – and it’s aiming to raise £50,000 for us to mark the milestone and make it a year to remember.
Colleagues have organised four Open Days, Car Washes throughout the year, a rugby tournament, new recruits challenges, a marathon effort and there’s even one firefighter taking part in the World Firefighters Games.
Staff in all roles, from firefighters to Control Room colleagues, support staff and more will all join the service-wide effort – including Chief Fire Officer, Rob Barber, who’s encouraged stations to get involved and helped out himself.
All stations have been asked to organise a Car Wash in aid of us, with Newcastle-under-Lyme and Lichfield already raising over £1,000 each with theirs.
Glynn Luznyj ran the Manchester Marathon on 14 April to contribute, while there was an Open Day aimed at the retired community on 9 April, Rugeley has one planned on 13 April, Lichfield on 8 June and Newcastle-under-Lyme on 7 September.
Meanwhile Richard Mortimer will travel to Denmark on 24 September for the World Firefighters Games, to compete to be named the toughest firefighter – all while raising funds for us, and awareness of the support we offer.
And Andy Topham from Newcastle-under-Lyme has planned a rugby tournament in June with 20 teams all raising £150 to register.
