In an incredible team effort, 27 stations from across Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service held Car Washes on the same day to raise funds for us.

Colleagues pulled our the sponges and hoses and washed more than 999 cars on Saturday, 26 October – raising a huge £18,000 – with £16,500 of that being donated to us.

Among the vehicles visiting crews on the day for a spruce up were classic cars, a digger, a lorry cab and even an ambulance.

The event was this year’s Norfolk Chief’s Challenge, set by Chief Fire Officer Ceri Sumner.

She said: “Last year the team were set a challenge to run around the county visiting every one of our 42 fire stations. This year we’ve gone for something different and encouraged everyone to get involved. I asked the team to try and wash 999 cars during the event across Norfolk. The majority of the money from the car washes will go to the Fire Fighters Charity, which is our nominated service charity, with other smaller sums going to local causes chosen by some of our stations.”

Charlotte Smith, our Regional Fundraiser, said: “It has been fantastic to see Norfolk colleagues come together to support this year’s Chief’s Challenge, and to see them fly past their target of 999 cars was incredible. Thank you so much to all those involved in organising and taking part in the Car Washes, the funds raised will help members of our fire services community with their physical and mental wellbeing, now and in the future.”
