Fire service personnel across the UK have been named in the King’s 2024 New Year’s Honours list, recognising their incredible work within their communities and their fantastic support for our charity.

Just one of those who has been recognised this year is our Engagement Representative, Sarah Goodall, who’s been named a Medallist of the Order of the British Empire for her tireless work for West Yorkshire FRS and in support of our charity – having helped her service raise more than £2million for us through innovative fundraising activities.

Sarah says: “When I received the notification of the award from the Home Office, I didn’t believe it was for me and had to read it several times. I was in complete and utter shock! It’s so humbling to be recognised in this way and I feel elated and overwhelmed at the same time.

“I have never done any of this for recognition or thanks; all I have ever wanted is to promote the exceptional work that we and our partners do across our communities. Being able to raise so much money in support for a charity that is so close to my heart is amazing, as is the work the charity does in supporting the health and wellbeing of our colleagues.”

Our Chief Executive, Dr Jill Tolfrey, says of all those named this year: “I send my warmest congratulations to all those who have been recognised in the King’s New Year’s Honours this year. Throughout my 10 years as Chief Executive, I’ve always been impressed and inspired by your incredible work, not only within our fire family, but in your wider communities.

“As ever, each of these honours is hugely deserved and, whether for your professional excellence or your tireless hard work and dedication to our charity, I would like to pass on my congratulations and thanks to you all.”
