The last year has seen heroic efforts from emergency services right across the country – and London Fire Brigade have been front and centre in the nationwide effort, with firefighters going above and beyond to help out the ambulance service amid mounting pressure.
Now, to honour those incredible efforts, London Fire Brigade and The London Ambulance Service have joined forces for a charity football match – all in support of The Fire Fighters Charity and The Ambulance Staff Charity.
The match, which will take place on 29 May 2021, recognises how firefighters from the service have stepped up on the frontline to help their colleagues as part of Operation Braidwood – the longest sustained operation London Fire Brigade has seen since the Blitz.
Many have driven ambulances to assist London Ambulance Service, attending around 110,000 incidents overall, as well as responding to Covid-19 deaths in their community. Meanwhile, they have continued to respond swiftly to incidents across the capital, as well as delivering food to vulnerable Londoners and distributing 20 million pieces of PPE.
In recognition of the amazing work, the LAS Football Club and LFB Football Club will battle it out for the inaugural Operation Braidwood Charity Shield at the Sutton United FC ground Gander Green Lane. Kick off will be at 3pm.
