Firefighters from West Yorkshire’s Killingbeck Fire Station will take on the Great North Run in fire kit to raise funds for us.
The 12-strong team from the station’s Green Watch will run with six sets of breathing apparatus, taking it in turns to wear it throughout, while one will also push a mini fire engine.
Gavin Healeas is one of the firefighters taking part and says: “I’ve done the Great North Run for the Fire Fighters Charity for years – usually with family members. I’ve done it in fire kit, I’ve done it pushing a mini fire engine and even in BA, so this time it’ll be great to take part with all of my colleagues.
“I’ve never had support myself from the charity, but I’ve known people who have. Being a firefighter, it’s a charity that’s there for us, it’s a major reassurance having it there.”
