When you grow up with two parents in the fire service, you know it’s like a second family – and Liv Carter says it’s one she hopes to join herself one day too.
Liv, 23, whose mum, Julie, works in Control and her dad, Andy, is a retired firefighter – both with West Yorkshire FRS – currently works in banking herself.
She’s always known about our charity, as her dad had rehabilitation support for his knee at Jubilee House, our centre in Cumbria, when she was a child.
It was this memory, and the knowledge that we’re there for her parents for life, that prompted her to choose us to support with a daring fundraiser recently.
“I organised a skydive with my colleagues on 18 August in Swansea, close to where I’m now living. Myself and a friend managed to raise £1,000 beforehand and HSBC matched us up to £500 each – meaning we raised £2,000 for the Fire Fighters Charity in total.
“The skydive itself was great – it was actually my second one and I’d definitely be up for a third!
“This is a fantastic charity which helps loads of people – including us as a family.
“I still want to join the fire service myself, as a firefighter, so I hope to work towards that in the future. Knowing the charity comes hand in hand with that is amazing.”
