Every year, we challenge Fire and Rescue Services to organise December Ascender events – and 2024 did not disappoint.
The concept is simple: one team of six max, a ladder pitched to the second floor and one hour exactly… all while raising as much as possible for us.
Our 2024 event saw Scarborough Fire Station win the most ascents for the second year running. Meanwhile, Acomb Fire Station (with just two participants) raised the most at over £1,400 – boosted by a generous donation from one of their employers, Lakeland.
The nationwide events raised more than £4,300 in 2024, with some incredible support from sponsors.
We want to give a special thanks to Supply Plus, which has sponsored the challenge for the last three years, as well as Smoke Eater Art – both of whom provided prizes.
Speaking about their sponsorship of the event, Supply Plus told us: “We are delighted to continue to sponsor the Ascender challenge to raise funds for Fire fighters Charity as the event is about teamwork, fitness, training, and fun using a rescue ladder product we, as a business, are proud the Fire and Rescue Service choose to utilise.
“Fire Fighters Charity is a great cause doing fantastic work to support firefighters and their families in times of need. We would like to congratulate the winning crew for their exceptional efforts and achievement.”
Our Fundraising Manager, Fiona Reid, says: “We saw some fantastic efforts from fire crews in the 2024 December Ascender challenge and I can’t thank each of them enough for the work they put into fundraising for us throughout.
“I also want to send a heartfelt thanks to Supply Plus for their ongoing sponsorship of the event and prize donation, as well as Smoke Eater Art which also generously donated a prize. The funds raised from each of the December Ascender events will make such a difference.”
