A group of fire officers recently completed a cycle ride from Land’s End to John O’Groats in aid of us and another charity, raising an amazing total of more than £5,500.
Cheshire FRS’ Assistant Chief Fire Officer, Neil Griffiths, was joined by Area Manager Tony O’Dwyer, Group Managers Gareth Scott and Matt Barlow and Station Manager Rick Aldous for the epic challenge, with volunteers supporting them along the way.
LEJOG – the team are safely back in Cheshire after cycling for 10 days from Land’s End to John o’Groats.
Thanks to everyone who’s donated. The current total raised for @firefighters999 & @macmillancancer stands at just over £5,300.

They chose to support us and Macmillan with their fundraising efforts, having benefitted from both charities themselves – as well as seeing colleagues supported.
They say: “Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service has a proud record of raising funds for the Fire Fighters Charity and the team is only too aware of the benefits that some of our firefighters and their families continue to receive.
“The Fire Fighters Charity is very dear to anyone working, or having worked, in the fire and rescue service as nobody ever knows when their support will be needed. It is an invaluable resource.
“Tony has benefitted from the charity. Following a back injury in 2008 and following procedures, he went to Jubilee House for what he thought was going to be rest and recuperation. Far from it, said Tony, he didn’t stop from the minute he got there but said it was well worth it. The physio team had him doing exercises he hadn’t done in months, they were brilliant and he can’t thank them enough.”
And Neil added after the challenge: “The LEJOG fundraising cycle ride was a fabulous experience that will live long in our memory. The way in which the team coped with the sheer physical and mental challenge was nothing short of inspirational.
“We are all incredibly proud to have completed the challenge and raise so much money for two very worthy causes. We couldn’t have done it without the incredible support from the Service, other Fire and Rescue Services who hosted us overnight, our support drivers, friends and colleagues who joined us at various points and of course, our amazing families who supported us to take the challenge on.”
The group also chose to split the funds raised with Macmillan, after Cheshire sadly lost three members of staff to cancer recently, as well as the team members themselves having family members who have passed away.
The team completed the challenge in 10 days, having covered around 1,000 miles and climbing over 15,000 metres of elevation along the way. Massive congratulations to all involved!
