A charity golf weekend has raised more than £19,000 for us – smashing all its previous records.

Hosted by Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service at Sprowston Manor, The Fire Fighters Charity Cup – which is organised each year by Fire Sport UK Golf Section – saw 23 teams get involved, with representatives from multiple Fire and Rescue Services from across the UK as well as one made up of sponsors of the event.

Winners of the group event were Kent FRS, with Norfolk coming in second and Essex in third.

Hertfordshire Crew Commander Lee Digweed, who’s a member of the national Fire Sport UK committee and one of the organisers, says: “The whole weekend was amazing, it literally went better than we could have imagined.

“We want to thank anybody and everybody that helped out and donated their time. We reached out to people right across the UK and asked for donations and support, before auctioning off vouchers for golf clubs that people had kindly offered us. We made over £3,000 from raffle tickets for one voucher alone!

“We then had people placing bets on hitting the green, all going towards to the Charity, and so much more.

“A special mention must go to Luke Clements, who really organised the whole weekend. He used to work at Sprowston Manor and this was his thing before he joined the fire service – most of the work was done by him and he was a superstar. Without him, we would not have raised that amount.”

This year’s Cup was kindly sponsored by Horizon Blinds, DMD Installations and Mcb Financial Services.
