Running wears your knees out… you’ve got terrible posture… these are just two of many myths circulating around joint health.
But are they true?
Our Exercise Therapist, John Cox, has now busted some common myths and explained the truth behind them in an exclusive video on MyFFC. Register here and watch it by following the link below:
And here’s a brief overview of what he had to say:
Is there such thing as a slipped disc?
Fundamentally, there is no such thing as a slipped disc! What actually happens is the side wall of the disc – which is the soft part between the two vertebrae – can either bulge or herniate. That causes the inside of the disc to spill out a little.
Can running wear out you knees?
It’s not true. If you have excess weight or you’re running particularly high mileage, then you’re more likely to develop arthritic knees than just running in general.
John explains in the video on MyFFC exactly why running won’t wear a knee out.
Is there such thing as bad posture?
Yes and no. Being able to move between postures is far more important and valuable than maintaining one posture for a prolonged period of time.
Just remember, if you are in a lot of pain, to seek medical help from a professional.
